Art visions: "Intersection"
A photographic art project by Mats Rune Karlsson and Sari Schildt.
With a view of Saarbrücken from above, a city divided in two reveals itself to the observer. Like a clear border, the River Saar leads through the middle of the city and divides the inhabitants into „Alt-Saarbrücker“ and „St. Johanner“. Until 1909, the city was still sub-divided into these two boroughs by the river. Bridges helped to overcome the natural separation and to grow together.
But the Saar does not only act as a backdrop in the urban area, it specifies reflections and shapes, just like the motorway which runs parallel to it. In „Intersection“, Mats Karlsson and Sari Schildt bridge the gap between their different photographic observations and let the two views melt to form a new image of the city. A town in change, in a process, which is turned upside down by the double view in an exemplary way, is shown. Just like the Saar flows, the images flow over into one another. Materiality, structure and lines move into the foreground and unveil a fragile snap-shot of the environment.
